Campaign Description

Let the Adventure begin! Author N. MacCameron needs original art for the cover of Leoshine, Princess Oracle, Book One before her launch in May. We are commissioning an Anna Pederson painting. We are also developing a map, a book trailer, and a Wiki for the series.

Leoshine, Princess Oracle by N. MacCameron

Why was the man so happy? Leoshine beganNicola MacCameron, author of Leoshine, Princess Oracle as a dream that compelled me to answer that question.

The story took shape amid the swirling emotions of

  • Leoshine, the Myxolidian princess/slave, whose worth is obvious to everyone except herself,
  • Avram, the Aeolian leader who thinks he has all the answers, but doesn't know the question, and
  • Resham, the reprogrammed savage whose two selves hate each other.

Over more than twenty years, this epic drama has grown to six books. In August 2020, I signed up with Siretona Creative for publishing support. Publishing is an integrative, collaborative process between many players and it is essential to have strong leadership to get the book into the hands of reading fans. I have found this leadership and companionship with Siretona.

You are here because you believe in the power of good stories to give worth, questions, and integrity. You want to share the journey of Leoshine from slavery to royalty, from confusion to command. Thank you for joining our team!

Author

I trained as a musician and have taught music to over 700 students in 30 years. I write stories and am excited to publish my first Sci Fi/Fantasy Series: Leoshine this year.

I draw, paint, sculpt, sew, embroider, crochet, macrame, tat, weave … I squish clay around, glue all kinds of stuff together, cut stuff up … I also dance on moonlit nights when the fairies and pixies reign.

Africa claims me as her child, Europe claims me as a nomad, Canada claims me as a settler. My voice, accent, outlook and style reflect all the places I have lived and loved.

What do you love? I love children and hope never to grow too old to get down on the floor and build, romp, or fly through a child’s imagination. I love animals and am pleased to say, they seem to love me back. Gardening, well, that’s an art isn’t it? Sunsets, a good cup of tea, setting the world straight with my friends, hats, clothing from cultures other than mine (another art form) …

Artist

Anna Pederson has dedicated her life to learning how to create stories out of paint. She is a self taught Canadian artist who gathers inspiration from travel and adventures. It’s been an incredible journey to dig into this passion and discouver the potential of paint. I believe that an artist should give themselves the freedom to explore new ideas and continue to grow in their ability for their entire life. As I started in my career as an artist, I was concerned about creating content that would please others. Not only did I want to make money, but I was very conscious of what people thought of me. I was putting myself in a box, not allowing creative thoughts to take hold. However, when I reached age 25 I started to look outside my own personal journey, and took advice from other artists. It is mind blowing to look at what others have created! My greatest art heroes are David Kitler, MuralJoe, Aaron Blaise, and Andrew Tischler. These guys are all incredibly kind hearted and their art is of the highest quality. I decided to make a change in my approach to art, and proceeded to create Vessel of Ideas. My encouragement to any artist is this: paint what you love! You will do well if you enjoy what you are doing. I have come to the point in my art journey where I would like to share what I’ve learned with others. My next “chapter” includes teaching art in Niger Africa, and running a YouTube channel. Keep learning, enjoy the world around you, inspire others… and create! Anna Pederson

Zoom Party!

Hello! Welcome to our party! I am thrilled to have you here as we celebrate International Women’s day and the success of my ATBBoostR crowd funding campaign. This is a zoom party and we need to take full advantage! I hope you brought some yummy treats! I have coconut cream pie.
Please talk to one another in the chat, privately and corporately. I like my people to know each other!
I would like to introduce my team - the people you see in the slide show. They helped get the crowd funding platform off the ground and they helped keep my feet on the ground when I threated to float away. A very special thank you goes to Colleen, Anna, Dianne, Rob, Bea and Marcia for all your efforts for Leoshine.
A great huge thank you goes to all the people who boosted the campaign both officially and unofficially. You are helping me put Leoshine into her readers’ hands and hearts and I couldn’t do it without you! We are celebrating your generosity and kindness!
I’d like to set the scene for this party. Imagine we are all together in an elegantly decorated large room, like a ballroom in a palace. Imagine there is a long table full of Avramian Myxolidian delicacies that you can eat without worry. I’ll leave it up to you to say what the treats taste like. Imagine we are all wearing Avramian Myxolidian party clothes. What do you think they look like? How do we wear our hair?
Lastly, imagine the room is filled with vases of fresh flowers because Avram’s mother, Iliana, has a rooftop garden on her palace and she is our queen mother hostess.
Now I can introduce you to our guests of honour, who make this party possible from the very first.
We meet Leoshine first. She is beautiful. I hesitate to describe her because I want to enter into your concept of beauty. If you thought you were beautiful (I think you are) what would you look like?
Leoshine is the youngest daughter of the mayor of Myxolidia - the town that holds the last bit of civilisation under the Dome - the generated atmosphere. Her father disappeared for part of her childhood and when he returned, he was full of strange ideas. Her mother and siblings (she has two sisters and two brothers) despised the new ideas, but Leoshine listened and it’s a good thing she did because one day a stranger shows up at the town gate.
Father is excited but mother panics and bundles her daughters and other palace women into the wilderness. They are captured by savages that inhabit all the rest of the Dome. Leoshine is carried in a sack and dumped at the feet of our next guest of honour.
Avram is the leader of the Aeolian mission to regenerate Myxolidia. The Dome needs attention after about 200 years of neglect. You see, Aeolia established the Myxolidian Dome as per protocol extending all the way back to mythical earth. One Dome sets up the next and the next, to relieve population density.
About 200 years ago, there was an intergalactic accident that convinced the Myxolidians that contact with Aeolia was too dangerous. They decided they could do better by themselves. The Aeolians are back to rescue them.
Avram is highly intelligent and creative and has extreme tactile sensitivity. He hardly ever sleeps and he’s a bit of a mama’s boy, as an only child. He recognises this tendency and fights against it with interesting results.
He has a servant called Resham who is his valet and takes care of everything mundane. Resham is also chief of security, royal physician and priest. And confessor. And punching bag.
Resham was kidnapped from Myxolidia to Aeolia as a child. He is a savage indoctrinated by Iliana into the Aeolian way and his two sides are at war.
I think Leoshine is a suitable read for anyone who is stretched between two or more cultures. I recently learned about Third Culture Kids. I am one! And Covid has thrown us all into this arena.
The culture we had cannot remain. We need to create a “third culture” out of the best parts of what we had, and what we can imagine to be even better. That’s exactly what Leoshine does and shows us how to do!

Brand New Unique Typeface for Leoshine

So beautiful! I can't believe the blessing Travis Williams gave me by designing this unique, eyecatching typeface. He has always wanted to create a totally new alphabet. When he heard that one of the people groups in Leoshine, Princess Oracle had a script, he set his incredibly creative graphic design mind to work.

Wow! the result is stunning, as you can see.

Liquid into a Sponge - New Narration from Leoshine Princess Oracle

This is from when Leoshine first lands (literally) at Avram's feet. Resham immediately takes her into his care.

Hands gripped her. Her instinct shivered at the meaning of the men’s laughter. A mattress absorbed her body like liquid into a sponge.

She lay as though the sponge had frozen, breathing through her fingers.

Colours blazed in her eyes. Loud voices and a slamming door jarred her nerves.

Oversized, warm hands smoothed back her hair from her cheek and raised her shoulders until they almost touched her knees.

The pores of a man’s nose filled her vision as he wiped her hands and face with a cloth softer than Mother could weave, soaked in water warmer than tears.

His eyes blinked green and hazel with many black specks below lowered brows. His mouth twisted up on the right side. A black, red and silver shell encased his neck and chest.

For a moment Leoshine’s senses groped in an empty space.

Before she could think further the hazel eyes returned with a voice like underground caverns opening. “Drink.”

Leoshine’s eyes widened as the man placed a steaming cup in her hands. Her tongue demanded the liquid as she blinked.

He turned his head. Sounds unlike speech came from his full, hairless lips. Leoshine’s instinct curled against another presence in the room that seemed to answer.

He turned back and lifted the cup that warmed her hands. His other hand reached behind her head. Before he touched her, she tipped the rim to her cracked lips. Herbs and vegetables danced in her nose and in no time her hunger lay in ruins.

The man lost his edges in the swelling fog. She felt his hands moving her limbs and body to lie down, then covering her.

Blanket. The word teased from a far distance. Listless, weightless, she drifted beyond her fear.

FAQs

What is Leoshine about?

The Aeolians set up a generated atmosphere (Dome) like their own on Myxolidia. After a catastrophic inter-galactic accident, the Myxolidians tossed the Aeolians out, deciding they could run the atmosphere and society better without them.

The Aeolians, led by Avram, are back to reclaim and rescue their project.

Savages surround the last bit of of civilization on Myxolidia. Leoshine is the youngest daughter of the leader of that walled town. During the invasion, she is captured by savages and given to Avram as a peace offering. They expect him to use her the way they would, but he has higher ideals.

He dresses her up, teaches her to speak, read and write his language, and parades her as an example of the good he brings to her people.

Then there's Resham, and Leoshine's siblings, Wol, Giffshine, and Hillashine, and Avrams' mother, Iliana, all fighting for attention and power.

How long have you been writing Leoshine?

I had the dream in 1999.

The first draft was handwritten. In 2004 I got a laptop and soon after I bought Scrivener which is an author's writing platform.

In 2020 I signed up with Siretona Creative to edit Leoshine, Princess Oracle.

21 years is a good amount of time for an epic to grow.

What is Siretona Creative?

I was looking for an editor. I want to give my readers the best possible story told in the best possible way.

My friend, Katie Gerke, connected me with her friend Sandy, who connected me with Colleen McCubbin.

She and I had an enlightening conversation during an epic thunderstorm

At the end of our talk, I asked Colleen if she would be interested in editing Leoshine. There was a long pause and my heart sank.

Then Colleen said, "I'll find an editor for your story. I want to publish it."

Siretona Creative is a hybrid publisher. I carry some of the costs of publishing, and Colleen's company takes on other costs.

All of us - publisher, author and especially you, the reader - profit!

What is the worst thing that happened during the writing of Leoshine?

In the early days, I kept every part of Leoshine on a thumb drive.

One day it got bent out of shape. I had no other copy and spent $900 retrieving the files. (Leoshine is worth it)

Lesson learned!

What is the best thing that happened during the writing of Leoshine?

Community happened! My family - especially my husband - and friends.

Cindy Homer, Corrine Vooys and Faye Hleuka read early drafts and guided me to better story telling by believing in Leoshine's story.

I am deeply grateful to my writer friends and readers all over the world. You have taught me, encouraged me, challenged me, and inspired me. Thank you for joining me here too!

The Third Culture Kid movement is new to me, and exciting and healing too! We share many characteristics and have powerful gifts to change the world for the better. I hope Leoshine is a unifying force in that community.

Covid has whipped one culture from beneath our feet and propelled us into another. We are all in Leoshine, Avram and Resham's shoes. Leoshine gives us hope and resilience to rise and blend and explore and adapt.

What is a Third Culture Kid?

A Third Culture Kid/Adult is someone who grows up in a culture (or many cultures) that is not their parents culture. Missionary kids, Military kids, Diplomatic kids, Banking kids. I'm a Mining kid myself.

We have lived in multiple countries, know all the time zones without looking, and have an international friend list. We speak many languages, have high tolerance for our fellow humans, grieve what we lose while adapting freely to what we have in front of us. Global Citizen is another word I like to use.

I noticed that there is hardly any fiction for teens and adults in this global movement. There are non fiction titles about how-to and elementary readers like "Molly's moving to Kenya Today." But nothing in the fiction line. (Expat Bookshop)

If we read about playing tennis, our brains light up as if we were actually swinging the racket and hitting the ball for ourselves!

"The fMRIs after the reading assignments revealed heightened connectivity in the left temporal cortex, the area of the brain associated with receptivity for language. Heightened connectivity in other parts of the brain suggested that readers may experience “embodied semantics,” a process in which brain connectivity during a thought-about action mirrors the connectivity that occurs during the actual action. For example, thinking about swimming can trigger the some of the same neural connections as physical swimming." The Atlantic

Therefore, if a Third Culture Kid reads about someone going through the changes, challenges, and triumps of adapting to new cultures, their brains will be better prepared for the reality. Leoshine may be the first story in this new genre!

Have you written anything else?

On Wattpad I have a story called Hagovi's Bridge.

Hagovi is exiled with her parents to the end of Time, at the edge of a world ending sand storm called the Barrier. Her parents go back to claim their kingdom, leaving Hagovi with an eccentric professor she has never seen before.

Through working with him on Barrier Trash, she learns that her father performed scientific experiments on her and she can never return to the old kingdom. The only way forward is the Barrier.

I also have The John Murphys, a robot romance lined up for future publication.

John has a condition that society finds unacceptable. An android (Murphy) that looks exactly like him goes into public for him.

Through a dating service, John (through Murphy) meets Catherine, who hates robots.

I also have a Fairy Story called Algae Writers. The Queen Fairy is stricken with a mysterious ailment. The King and Prince Fairy have gone off in opposite directions to search for a cure.

The heir to the throne, Cassie, balances royal duties with multitudes of sisters and a kingdom under threat. The real ailment is much closer to home.

These are the stories that have significant writing attached to them. All day long fragments and premises float through my mind. I could follow any of them into the realm of possibility!

Who is Leoshine's target audience?

Are you of higher intelligence? Culturally aware? Interested in how humans interact with each other and their environment? You are Leoshine's audience.

Third Culture Kids, Homeschoolers, Fantasy and Sci Fi lovers.

I want to give my readers value that they might not realise. When we read, our brains light up as if we are actually doing the thing we are reading about. We process our lives better when we engage with fiction.

I hope Leoshine's resilience translates into your success.

How many books are in the Leoshine series?

There are six books under development: Princess Oracle, Quarry, Slave, Commander, Consort, and Regina.

Why are you doing the BoostR Campaign?

I am grateful to ATB for Boosting Alberta businesses, and especially this month, those owned and operated by women. This helps me raise the funds and get the word out that there is a new Sci Fi / Fantasy series to devour.

Leoshine is ready to be revealed to the world. The world is ready to receive her wisdom and experience as its own.

Find the value deep inside that carries you beyond the ordinary, beyond the limits imposed on you buy someone else's culture.

Plunge with Leoshine into the depths, and rise up victorious and whole.

What is a Tassanara? Or a Rachnorgat?

Tassanara is the Aeolian word for Princess. However, Iliana disguises the meaning for Leoshine. She tells her it means "Overlord's Slave." What is a Rachnorgat? Myxolidians have a protocol for keeping justice and honour in their society. Theft, slander and murder or bodily injury all demand The Mercy Plea. The offended party must kill the offender unless he cries Mercy. He then becomes the Rachnorgat, or slave of the Rachnorgain (the offended party). He lives as a starving, neglected animal, but at least he's alive, right? I love coining words! Of course there will be a glossary in the book, and we are planning a wiki for the series where fans can share their own creativity in Leoshine's world.

What is the Launch date for Leoshine, Princess Oracle?

Assuming a successful BoostR campaign, and under consultation with Siretona Creative, we are heading for a May launch for Leoshine, Princess Oracle and an October launch for Book Two - Leoshine, Princess Quarry.
