Give for Good

by Meighan Sommer • Edmonton
Give for Good is an online platform that helps facilitate meaningful giving by easily connecting goods and services from those who have to those who need. Every community has vulnerable individuals and families who struggle to access the goods and services they need to make a difference in their lives. These same communities also have individuals and businesses who have goods and services they would like to give but no easy way to do so. Give for Good helps to overcome the barriers on both sides of the equation to connect those who need with those who have. We're currently in the process of piloting our prototype with the Edmonton Mennonite Centre For Newcomers (EMCN), where we hope to assist woman and families who are new to Edmonton. With your support, we hope to expand and reach additional families and communities across Alberta and beyond. We are reaching out to the booster community, Albertans, and of course all Canadians to help us raise awareness and at least $5,000 to help us advance our prototype. These funds will help us reach a wider audience of individuals and businesses who are able to give and ensure that the platform is easy to use and accessible for those in need within our community. We feel so lucky to be initiating this platform in Edmonton- where there are so many generous and thoughtful people and businesses who truly care about improving the lives of our most vulnerable. Thank you so much for your support!

Indigenous cultural teachings, values and identity are at the core of the ANFCA. We provide opportunities for cultural sharing, focused on bridging the gap between Indigenous and non- Indigenous worldviews. All programs and services incorporate cultural values and teachings into their structures. The range of programs and services offered varies greatly and includes, but is not limited to, accredited alternative schools, daycares, youth centres, employment programs, homeless shelters, cultural camps, socio-economic, health promotion and prevention and life skills programs."

Alberta is currently going through tough times due to COVID and its related impacts on job losses. Meanwhile, our friends in Fort McMurray is currently fighting a flood situation, due to spring ice jam in the Athabasca river. Combined with COVID related to job losses, people of Fort McMurray are under severe strain. EMC has initiated this fund raiser to support people of Alberta. Proceeds from this relief effort will go to the Calgary Food Bank, Edmonton Food Bank and Fort McMurray Food Bank. Funds raised through this relief effort will be equally divided between the food banks in Calgary, Edmonton and Fort McMurray. Donate generously and let us show our support for the people in need.

Tusk: Care Navigation Tool

by Heather Barnhouse • Edmonton
The business provides awareness and support for caregivers of people living with dementia. It uses a proprietary platform to help caregivers navigate the system, to most effectively and efficiently allocate resources and service providers to meet the identified needs of caregivers. The platform has a wellness tracker (focused on the caregiver's wellness) and a symptom tracker (focused on the symptoms of the person living with dementia), where the caregiver update at their leisure. Based on the self-reported findings, the platform curates a list of recommended resources and service providers to provide additional support and awareness for the caregiver. The caregiver can glean the big picture of what the journey might look like over the life of the degenerative disease, and be supported throughout that journey.
The Silver Skate Festival is turning 30 years old in February 2020 and we need your support! We are an iconic event that all Edmontonians can be proud of. Rooted in Dutch winter traditions, the festival combines sport (especially skating), arts and culture, culinary, and recreation. The Silver Skate Festival is Edmonton’s the longest running winter festival. Over the years, it has grown in leaps and bounds, from a small skating event to a large-scale, winter extravaganza. Attendance has increased annually, and we anticipate exceeding 120,000 visitors in 2020. This success comes at a price as our biggest accomplishment is our biggest challenge. We are so incredibly grateful to our Edmonton Community in working with us to create some incredible incentives to help support the Silver Skate Festival. With Christmas just around the corner we are sure you could find something different for that hard to buy for person.
