Yoga and Martial Arts Fusion for Kids
Children today are so addicted to their devices. It's creating many underlying mental, emotional and physical problems that will affect the futures of our kids.
Children today are so addicted to their devices. It's creating many underlying mental, emotional and physical problems that will affect the futures of our kids.
It’s time to help our kids help themselves.
What is YogaMa
I've combined yoga and martial arts to bring you YogaMa.
My name is Sandy Weatherall, and I’m a certified Yoga and Martial Arts instructor. I have a black belt in Karate and years of training in Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I designed YogaMa for children to help support their mental and physical health, and to build their confidence...in life. The idea for YogaMa came during the COVID lockdown when I realized we all needed help. Not only did the uncertainty shake us as adults, but our children became more immersed in their devices.
YogaMa is designed to teach children as young as 6 years old, how to self regulate and find that inner balance within themselves. Combining yoga with martial arts and meditation allows a child to receive the best of all worlds. Yoga improves balance, strength, endurance, and aerobic capacity in children. Martial arts builds speed and confidence; teaching children to manage themselves without aggression and the confidence to not be a victim. What’s so amazing is how both practices flow together in a harmonious way and have a base in similar principles of internal and physical strength, self discipline and emotional and body awareness; improving behaviour, connection and overall happiness.
What’s breath? Breath is the anchor of our program. Martial Arts emphasizes breath to fuel energy and movement. Breath is the element that packs a punch to every move. Meanwhile, Yoga uses pranayama breath, to allow the energy to flow through your body. Conscious breath is proven to reduce stress and improve health.
It’s the CONTRASTING elements of Yoga’s breath driven slow, methodical and fluid motions and Martial Arts explosive, energetic and powerful moves that creates a unique balance for our kid’s well being. Adding awareness teachings creates a place for our kids to get a head start becoming well balanced and confident adults as well as contributing, compassionate human beings.
How Can You Get involved?
The intention was to have YogaMa come to you face-to-face. With the new restrictions we still want to bring YogaMa to you. To do this we need equipment to create high-quality virtual classes as well as high-quality downloadable videos to bring YogaMa to your home! The silver lining to all of this is that YogaMa is not just for kids. By brining this virtually into your home, we are creating sequencing that is interesting and holds the attention for children as well as challenging enough for adults so that this practice can be done as a family.
So we need you donations to get the classes to you as well as promote YogaMA so that when restrictions lift, we can begin classes in a facility and have face-to-face interaction.
In return for your support, you will receive 2 downloadable videos so that you can practice YogaMA in you home at anytime.
The eventual goal is to have separate classes for different ages of children as well adult classes.
We are so excited to bring this practice of flow and balance and power to you!
Thank you!
