Who is Central Bark Doggy Daycare?
Our facility offers Doggy Daycare, Grooming, Canine Massage and Reiki, we sell dog treats and apparel and provide a space to have your doggy events! You can find us in the neighborhood of Sunalta in SW Calgary at the end of 10th avenue SW. We have been proudly opened since 2018 and have fortunately celebrated our 4th year of surviving Calgarys up-and-down economic climate.
How did the pandemic affect us.
In 2020, as many small businesses faced closures due to Covid-19, Central Bark Doggy Daycare was fortunate enough to be able to keep our doors open as we were deemed "essential". What we found was although we were opened, many of our clients remained home and in turn kept their dogs with them. This resulted in a decrease of more than 75% in attendance to our daycare. We are slowly working towards paying back government assisted loans so that we can continue to service our customers for many years to come.
How it all started?
I started this journey when I was experiencing extreme anxiety with my place of work. As part of my need to reduce my anxiety, a friend of mine suggested that we look at a few dogs for adoption. We looked at a few dogs at the Cochrane Humane Society and I fell in love with Nueka. Long story short, we got to take Nueka home a few weeks later. Since then, she has given me unconditional love and my anxiety has reduced ten-fold. I really feel that dogs are a great tool for therapy in a society where anxiety rules us. Because of her unconditional love, she has helped me understand that life is too short and really work towards your passion.
In 2018, I completed my Small Animal Practitioner Certification in Portland Oregon at the Northwest School of Animal Massage, Equine and Canine Massage. This allowed me to work with shelter dogs, geriatric dogs and dogs with anxieties. Since 2018, I opened Central Bark Doggy Daycare here in Calgary. A facility that prides ourselves with giving the best care we can to all the dogs of Calgary!
Tell us more about this project.
Calgary is so fortunate to have up to 150 public off-leash areas in our multi-use parks for Calgarians and their dogs to enjoy. Unfortunately there is a lack of outdoor private fenced off-leash dog parks in inner city Calgary. That is why we are proposing to create Calgary's first inner Private off leash dog park.
In the past few years, we have seen an influx of dog ownership in Calgary which has been amazing.
A common discussion amongst dog owners is that public off leash parks may not be suitable for their dogs as they may be dog and or human reactive, or just need a little more private space to run around without the worry of other animals. Some puppy parents love the idea of being able to rent a space that they can invite their own group of puppy friends for Birthday Parties, Dog meet ups, Training and so much more!
We are currently in Development permit stages with the City of Calgary. Located at the end of 10th av sw where Crowchild Trail SW meets with Bow Trail Sw. There will be two dog parks side by side. Each park will be a total of 3000sq ft, complete with artificial turf, dog agility traiing tools, garbage disposals and a sitting area for clients. Each area will be completely fenced off by a 6ft tall chain link fence and privacy screens. We are proposing a vehicle drive through for easy drop off into the park for your dogs. There will also be ample parking across the laneway at Central Bark Doggy Daycare's parking lot located at 2004 10 av sw.
Our goal is to raise funds to erect the chain link fencing around the perimeter and incorporate some dog training playground. We are hoping to raise a min of $15,000 to help pay for the cost of fencing. We hope you are able to join us in this journey and help dog ownership become a little easier.
