Hi. My name is Sharon Francis and I am the owner of Kilograms Restaurant and Catering in Fort Saskatchewan Alberta. Ever since I was a young girl, I wanted to duplicate the experiences I had around the kitchen table. Good food, and drink, laughter and stories shared with family and friends.
My dream came true July 2019, when I opened Kilograms Restaurant. I fell in love with the space the moment I saw it. A lot of history with this space. First it was the CIBC bank and yes my kitchen is in the vault. LOL! Then it was Farnese Registry. Many people come in and share their stories of being in the building.
Now Kilograms is here! I had a vision of what the space would look like but I kept an open mind in letting the community define it. Oh boy! Did we ever get suggestions. A cafe! A meeting space! Round Table by the Minister of Immigration, a location for a movie shoot.(Yes we did that!) Shout out to Martin. A mom and tot's group! Students studying for their exams, a place to read, a place to sit and have a quick bite or not so quick as in customers coming and staying four hours, a place to watch the game, a book launch, poetry reading, entertainers(Thanks Raven Wells), moms with newborn babies, seniors enjoying each other's company, the swim team, the yoga club, the bowling league, the dance club parents waiting for their kids, the bible class, the place to blow off some steam or have a listening ear ( Yes I do listen), the mayor dropping in with her friends or by herself to have a slice of banana bread while pondering City Hall business (Sorry Mayor Gale. Hope I did not spill any beans, City Council, Robin Hood, Fort Transit, other business owners because we support one another and we all wish each other success.
I think you get my drift. It is a community restaurant. We make it what we want to make it. This is the only one of its kind in the Fort. We have customers from Edmonton, Redwater, Lamont, Gibbons, Peace River and too many more to mention. The community of Fort Saskatchewan have embraced Kilograms and we are grateful for that.
We are not only about asking. We are also about giving. We support on a monthly basis, Families First, a Fort Saskatchewan based organization who provides amazing programs for families. We say yes to the many bottle drives, school chocolate sales, personal donations to the many causes locally. We believe in giving back
