Campaign Description

I have launched a Virtual Yoga Studio and I need some support spreading the word! Using the World Wide Web, I can connect with people from all places sharing my wealth of wellness knowledge and healing. At the moment I feel limited in reach to just those in my network and I need help branching out and making a BIG impact! I desire all beings to be well, all beings to know peace, all beings to have inner happiness. Please join me in offering wellness and vitality to more people! I have currently have 5 teachers on my team, offering 20 classes LIVE per week! We are offering 28 days of yoga in February and a special 2 week digital retreat in March!

Who am I?

Hi, I'm Sarah Curts.

I was born and raised in Calgary. I grew up LOVING dance! I danced as many hours a week as I could while also getting straight A's at school. I went on to pursue dance professionally, ending up with an eating disorder and depression. I left my pursuits and dancing in Toronto to come back to Alberta and heal myself- mind, body and spirit.

I'm going to be honest- it was hard. I was suicidal, I was in toxic relationships, I was a mess! A few years living life like this, I decided I wanted no more... it was time to be happy, to enjoy life. So I searched for help and I found a trial run of a therapy program teaching mindfulness to overcome depression.

Gold!!

The program led me to gratitude, meditation, awareness, and being present! Truly and fully present. At the same time, I was going to yoga as a way to exercise since dance was too triggering. I found an amazing community and teachers and fell in love with the soulful and spiritual essence of yoga.

A few years later, I was inspired by the more dynamic postures of yoga and went to do my very own Yoga Teacher Training. Now I had no desire to be a teacher, I really just wanted to learn how to be a great yogi and do all of the cool things! It turns out my community wanted me to teach them. And it turns out that I fell in love with the philosophy of yoga AND tantra.

That was really just the tip of the iceberg. The next few years I studied all sorts of esoteric practices- such a reiki, witchcraft and Family & systemic constellations therapy. I became certified in many fields, kept reading and following these amazing paths.

Now, as part of my ongoing and constant healing, I share what I know to be valuable and true in my body and wellness journey with others! Cornerstones of my practice are a morning routine - be it in yoga or meditation or journaling- and monthly witch circles. The circles are opportunities to gather with women and men to share our authentic states of being and create deep bonds.

I love nature, I love dogs and I love eating good food.

There's so much more I could tell you and share, so for now, come to a class and see for yourself!!

Why I teach yoga online

I started teaching yoga online back in May 2020. We had been in lockdown for a few months already and my chronic injuries were really flaring up. I thought to myself... what can I do to tend to this? We can't get a massage right now; no bodywork that I would usually use to help my issues. So... what else has helped me in the past?

Yoga

Specifically yoga retreats... Going to a location for a week or two week or even month long intensive to do yoga daily, eat good food, relax, meditate and even learn. But... the world was in lockdown. So I thought to myself, I can do it here, now! I was living on a lake, building my own garden and so I decided to do yoga twice a day for two weeks and invite whoever wanted to join me (digitally) to do so.

I spent the next week learning about hosting events on Zoom, figuring out how to share the platform with the dozen people who decided to join and then we began!!

It was amazing. Not only did I heal myself fully (within two months), I also found this amazing group of humans who wanted to join me online, every day! We had times where we sat and talked, drank tea, sang, and obviously, did yoga!

I was so inspired by the results I felt in my body- and the results my students were seeing in their lives- that I decided to keep teaching!!

Now it's over 9 months later and I'm growing: I'm hiring other teachers, sharing more of my knowledge and creating a larger community for us to gather and heal together!

What's special about MY yoga?

Well nothing.

Yet, everything.

The simple truth is, it's just showing up. Having community to be accountable for. Having a time daily, or multiple times a day, to show up for YOU.

That's it. It's that simple.

And yet, why train with me?! Well... most people like how gentle and slow I go. It might not be everyone's style, but feeling resistance to slowing down may actually be a great indicator that a slower practice has a lot to teach you! In our speedy world, being forced to slow down, to stop the mental chatter, to become present- is a gift we are not often given. It can take time to cultivate our sense of peace but is so rewarding once we get there!

I teach a system where we flow through the 5 tattvas- the 5 sacred elements of Tantra. I work up from the earth and all through the chakras. We ignite all of the aspects of our being- body, breath, mind, spirit- to unite and become whole. We then take this awareness with us through our days!

I also teach a lot of my dance and circus knowledge. I have been working with the body for 28 years (gosh.. that's a lot) and I used my body professionally for most of that time! I have so many tools and insight and offers to share.

While keeping the body well, I also teach to keep the mind and spirit well. We are all one... nothing is separate. But we always start with the body.

As people in a very fast paced, go go go world, our nervous systems are almost always ON! I come back to the body to relax the parasympathetic nervous system so not only can we begin to heal and rest, we can also then receive more!

I could tell you more, but discover a class and tell me how you FEEL!

Why I need your help

Teaching online has been revolutionary for me. I taught in person for over a decade, yet with Covid, I had no choice and so I CREATED a way to teach online.

I think a lot of people are still a bit hesitant and resistant to trying classes online and this has proven to be a challenge for me. Of course it's not the same as in person but there are other benefits, such as:

  • Being in your own space, comfortable, and private
  • Not being bombarded by other people's energies or worried about "how good" you are compared to everyone else
  • Being able to go to the bathroom whenever you need- without anyone noticing or stepping on them by accident
  • Wearing whatever you want, or not wearing anything at all!
  • Meeting cool people from places you'd never have met or practiced with otherwise!
  • Doing a recording of the class if you just can't make it live for any reason. Or revisiting the recording if there was something you didn't get or want to do again.
  • Being able to ask questions in the moment and receive immediate feedback (ok, you could do this before BUT in lots of yoga classes that would be intimidating AF!)

Of course there are pros and cons. I can't see everyone perfectly while I'm teaching (or at all if their camera is off) and I can't just walk by and easily suggest to move their hip slightly to the left or give them a nice assist in a resting pose.

Yet, it's pretty great to be able to connect and move and breathe together in these odd and difficult times.

I need your help in getting the word out!! Try a class, support what I'm doing or share with someone you love.

I have been teaching now, at various rates- from free, to donation, to half price- yet now I need to pay my bills. Especially with teachers under me, requiring to be paid, I need to make around $2300 a month to cover my costs:

  • Teacher Salaries (50*28) 1400
  • Sarah Salary -
  • Rent 600
  • Utilities (internet) 100
  • Fees/memberships 102.50
  • Other -
  • Insurance 100
  • TOTAL MONTHLY = 2302.50

Currently, I am only able to pay my teachers around minimum wage, which is just not enough for the expertise, time and knowledge they are sharing. I would like to be able to pay my teachers, and myself, $50/class to honour the work ($50*28 =1400)!

At present, with my limited network and marketing skills, I am able to make around $1000 a month from my classes. That leaves me about $1300 short of covering my base costs. I have set my campaign at $7000 as that would cover roughly three months of my studio being up and running, giving me more time to promote it and build a following WHILE covering my costs AND sharing this amazing and magickal healing with the world.

Considering pledging at any tier you can afford, joining a class (please, I would love to see you!), or sharing with someone who would love this work.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Testimonials

"My expectations coming into this retreat were to help create a daily routine and try to get closer to figuring out a constant way to recharge.
What I got, was all that....but also a calmer mind, a stronger body, and a community of people who cared about their own growth as much as they cared about mine.
Sarah took the time to have private conversations addressing my previous injuries so she could make effortless accommodations in class to suit my needs. She was patient, she was fun, and she was exactly what I needed.
I would recommend this to anyone with a body that needs some extra love. You’ll get what you need out of this and so much more."
~Lisette, Mom & Full time Artist

"That you are offering a consistent daily class opening, I am so appreciative!!! This will help me stay on this kinder path, and I am not sure how, but this way will provide more growth and awareness in the unforeseen future. It is creating a different foundation...
It’s the consistency that works for me, and it’s only been 3 mornings! Plus your approach works for me. Despite being virtual, participating doesn’t feel disconnected at all. You are very approachable yet knowing your dance discipline, there’s real knowledge there."
~Kelly

"Integration gets deeper with every breath, practice, mantra etc. We are a privileged few that get to experience this. I get tremendously excited for each new group member, because I'm genuinely so excited for them to experience what we all have in just a month."
~ Luke, Cook & father

"I’m surprised I like this online retreat as much as I do. If this was a normal yoga class I don’t think I’d be as regular as I am now. I mean I was feeling tired and thought I’d have it in the background as I eat, but then I’m doing the poses. Thanks again Sarah for this lovely practice and this opportunity to have community."
~Greg, Naturopath

FAQs

When can I use my Reward?!

Once the campaign ends I will be in touch with everyone to give them their gift! This will happen the week of March 9th- Just before the Vernal Equinox retreat begins!!

Are your classes recorded?

YES! All of the classes at the studio are recorded and available via email for those who register. The classes are available for viewing for 24hrs. Only the speaker is recorded.

**The exception is that the moon circles or rituals where we are sharing are not recorded. I respect people's privacy and confidentiality.

Why are there different prices on your studio?

Good question! I have a sliding scale for all of my classes, from drop in rates between $15-20-25 a class to monthly membership passes from $150-200-250 a month! I try to keep my classes affordable while also letting the balance of those who can pay more offset those who can't.

How do the classes work?

You can register via the BookWhen platform and then a zoom link will be sent to your email. You will join via desktop (preferred) or your phone so you can see and hear the teacher! You are welcome to keep your camera turned off and your sound on mute, unless you have a question in which we encourage speaking up! Having your camera on does help the instructor offer corrections of slow down or speed up depending on the group. All classes start and end on time. The recording will only capture those speaking and will only be shared for viewing by those registered.

Can I pay now and use my pass later?

Yes! You can buy a class or pass anytime and use within the time frame suggestion from the purchase date. Most passes can be used within three months. Month passes last for 30 days starting from the first day you use your class.

What if I'm new to yoga?

Great!! We love welcoming people for the first time. All of our instructors will offer modifications, tips and tricks for anyone who has never done yoga before. It is easy to follow along and do ask questions if you're unsure!

What if I have an injury? Can I still join classes?

Yes! I do recommend you let your teacher know at the beginning of class, or private message Sarah to discuss personalized changes you can make in every class or posture. Trust your own body wisdom and know if it doesn't feel good- don't do it! I personally have done yoga through many injuries and healed doing so, so please, don't let this stop you!

I'm pregnant, can I do yoga?

YES!! Please let the instructor know, or private message Sarah to ask for tips, as there are specific postures to avoid or adapt depending on which trimester you are in. I personally taught one woman throughout her whole pregnancy from conception to birth to afterbirth and it is a joy to witness!

I'm technologically challenged... can you help?

For sure! I want this to be accessible to everyone. Please message me, Sarah, if you're having trouble and let's get it sorted so you can flow and move without worry!

Do you have gentle classes?

Yes! To be honest, most of the classes on the schedule are gentle. I have designed it that way. There are however a few specific to just seated meditation and slower classes such as restorative if you are in a lot of pain or less mobile. Reach out personally if you have further questions.

How do I connect further?

I have a facebook group created to connect all of my students, past & present, to share and ask questions. If you are curious about anything led in class, ask there! If you want to connect to other students, post there. I want this to be as collaborative and beneficial as possible!
