Velo Café is a meeting place for cyclists and non-cyclists alike to meet to swap stories, sip on great coffee & enjoy healthful café fare.
The co-owners/operators of Cassis Bistro & Suzette Brittany Bistro, Gilles and Andrea Brassart have another delightful offering for Calgary to enjoy – Velo Café, which opened November 29th 2016.
It all started when Gilles created a Facebook group for cyclists in the city. After weekly rides, the group would routinely end up back at Cassis. Gilles saw the need for a space dedicated to their lifestyle and sense of community and voilà… Velo Café was born.
Velo Café is a meeting place for cyclists to chat with other enthusiasts, sip on great coffee, eat healthful café fare and watch live cycling events together. Velo Café of course welcomes non-cyclists as well!
Velo Café is serving patisserie style French delicacies, plus a breakfast menu lovingly prepared by the Chefs of Cassis Bistro.
The café is conveniently located within Market 17 (a European-style market with fresh, local and organic groceries), located on the corner of 17th Avenue and 24th Street SW, next door to Cassis Bistro.
With Andrea now managing Market 17, many exciting changes have been taking place. Market 17 is stocking ‘Cassis to Go’, which includes menu favorites such as quiche, croque monsieur, and delicious fresh salads and a daily soup.
As the saying goes… “money can’t buy happiness but it can buy a bike and that’s the next best thing.” To foster that spirit, Velo Café acts as a clubhouse for cycling enthusiasts to depart from, arrive back to and meet to swap stories.
To further the love of the sport, Gilles and Andrea would like to continue to offer their support to semi-pro athletes. Currently, they are sponsoring Mark McConnell, better known as “Hot Sauce.”
The funds raised from this crowdfunding will go towards fostering an inclusive space, sense of community, and love of cycling.
