I grew up in a warm climate, a place where fruit and vegetables are in abundance and variety abounds. Exotic fruits and vegetables were at my fingertips and my interest in food was peaked when I started to discover foods that were traditional and regional...these were foods like waterblommetjies, rooibos tea, and dishes that were designed by the melding of different ethnic groups....dishes like babotie, bunny chows and potjie kos....
My father spent his weekends sitting under the lapa peeling garlic, cutting vegetables for pickling, blending vinegars and oils, and making old family inspired chutneys. He was in his element when friends came over for braais or afternoon wine and snacks. Many a pleasurable weekend and many memorable moments created. It is said that once Africa touches your soul, it will never leave you. It is its people, its land and its food that will be imprinted on your life.
Working and travelling around the world opened my eyes to the value of food and the impact it has on every living being. Every country has its unique bounty of products, unique way of cooking and presenting. Each having its history influence their lifestyle and the wonderful art of cross culture melding of flavors and colors.
My adventures in the culinary spectrum took me to Europe, Africa, the Caribbean and Canada. I have experienced all aspects of the cooking world and after 25 years, I have finally come to the realization that history, art, and science is at the heart of all my passions. Cooking encompasses all that is important to me. Hospitality is a natural talent that we all possess.
At this point in my life I feel it is time to create community, share knowledge, wisdom and passion and do it through the medium I know best.....Food.
My name is Jacqui Grobler, the proud owner and Executive Culinary Director of Streatside Cuisine Inc. We are a food truck focusing on International Street foods. It is my pleasure to present to you the concept and direction of this young Albertan Company.
My vision is to keep focused on the street foods being served every day all around the globe. I want to bring culinary diversity to the streets of Calgary and in doing so bring people together. I want to seize the opportunity to work alongside local growers and local companies that are committed to creating a greener environment, and a stronger Alberta. This company will also give back to the community by supporting nonprofit organizations and assisting them wherever we can.
My commitment to Streatside Cuisine is in my personal resources that have been invested into the project. The Food truck, at this point in time, is 90% complete. To bring the project to completion, will be a total of $15,000. Every aspect of the project is in position, except the funding. This encompasses the necessary plumbing, electrical and gas installation.
I believe in the success of Streatside Cuisine Inc. and I am encouraging you to put your energy behind this project and become a part of this exciting adventure. Our success can be realized with the support of the Larger Alberta Community and individuals like you.
